C'est une question de monstres, non? Qui sont tes monstres? Et ils nourrissent quoi, ils mangent quoi? ils veulent quoi? Et, il ressemble à qui? Qui, qui, qui.

It's not that I'm a different version of myself just the version of myself that belongs with this place when I return, I'm already here I'm already here. I feel like I"m running out of time the reasons are incoherent I've taken the batteries out of the clock I'd rather listen to the rhythmic ticking of the radiator you see, there's a merge in progress, helped along by the offerings I've left behind for myself from past visits here: drugs wrapped in the makings of a tent, running shoes ravaged by barnacles, books deemed inappropriate for city life. I've just looked down and noticed that I'm covered in mud. You ask me, if I was still thinking about the whole 'woman alone thing'? What I can tell you, is that I feel the difference now. I'm already here. I'm staring at an edge. Past the rocks, somewhere in the pacific, is an edge. It's unconcerned with my attempts to mould it, transit, or anoint it it doesn't rely on my belief in its existence it's like geologic time totally indifferent to human scale to numinous appellations it has no language, no language for the ticking of clocks it doesn't have language at all because it doesn't try to communicate it's nothing less than, and merely, I dunno, the first sound like an oscillation of tenses all the digressive angles of a ring composition of change, air, fire, sex, water, the agents of change fraying continuity, illuminating incidence I'm staring at it. I'm considering fear as an ingredient of conspiracy. I'm reminding myself to ask you about the erotics of danger, about enmity breeding enmity about asking the wrong questions. I don't know how to ask the right questions I think I'm dwelling in digressions falling into chasms of collective decision making I'm thinking about the folly of meeting you in person at last, maybe it's the woman alone thing. But there's a febrile balance to staying or leaving Doesn't change come regardless?

You reach for me in waves. You can recall all of your past lives. Where you are is always somewhere else. It's like the trick with rainbows: Should I ruin it for you? There's no magic, it's just about position, about separating spectrums, there's nothing when you get there, only a vast middle. All time is contained in its strata. A middle, prettily between us. An eagle and a raven are in an aerial death match here. An economy has been written here. A binding spell is cast here. The edge is folding. Maybe we'll never meet. So ask me your questions. I'll answer them to your satisfaction.

about

"The Ears of Animals" by Bitsy Knox and Roger 3000 is an intimate and unsettling journey through mental, geographic, and emotional landscapes. Blending spoken word, ambient layers, and minimalist electronic textures, each track unfolds like a fragment of poetic autofiction, an attempt to map the invisible. The introspective texts explore the effects of time, the memory of places, and the way sensations, thoughts, and memories shape our perception of the world.

Bitsy Knox is an artist, musician, writer, researcher, and radio host. She was born in Vancouver, the unceded and ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, and is currently based in Berlin.

Julien Meert, alias Roger 3000, is a painter and musician from Brussels. He has released several albums, self-produced on his label Tundra Records, and more recently on Futura Resistenza. He frequently collaborates with other musicians and artists such as Lawrence le Doux, Carole Louis and Bitsy Knox.

“The Ears of Animals” is their second album.
